Molecular biologist, Jon Kabat-Zinn, is credited for bringing ancient Buddhist mindfulness practices to contemporary western audiences. He states, “Mindfulness is the awareness that arises through paying attention on purpose, in the present moment, non-judgmentally.” It’s about, “changing your relationship with your thoughts and how you react to them.” (Mindfulness Made Simple)
Jean will teach mindfulness meditation using both western and Buddhist practices through anchoring at the breath, at the body, and at our emotions. Some informal techniques include the Andrew Weil, MD 4-7-8 Breathing Technique, STOP strategy, RAIN strategy, and more. Beginners can expect to build their mindfulness practice from 5 to 20 minutes.
