An Eagle Court of Honor held March 30 for three Boy Scouts in Troop 3640 included a live bird presentation, guest speakers, lots of friends and family and -- of course -- food! All three boys gave their scout mentoring pin to Brother Scott Higbee. Cody Fairbanks did his Eagle project for The Christmas Box International, where every child deserves a childhood. CBI is an organization that works with other groups to prevent child abuse and improve the quality of life for children and youth who have been abused or neglected. “We sorted, organized, labeled and prepared donations for distribution. It was a great and rewarding project. Thanks to all those who have helped me along the way,” Cody said. Weston Smith’s Eagle project was to make an Eagle nest for Hogle Zoo. The nest is part of the new eagle exhibit at the zoo. The nest was made from sticks and brush that were woven around a six-foot rebar frame. Weston organized over 50 man hours of volunteer work from scouts and others to accomplish this. Weston wanted to do a project at the zoo so it could be enjoyed by so many people and help the animals. Thanks to all those who helped with the project. Josh Haslam completed his Eagle requirement with a service project for the Volunteers of America. He distributed flyers and collected food, clothing and other donations for homeless youth. He collected more than three truckloads of items for this wonderful charity organization. “Since my service project helped homeless teens, I felt especially gratified. I could relate to them a bit more being in the same age category,” he said. The boys have had many, very supportive leaders during their scouting years. Thank you to all family and community members that helped to make this incredible life achievement possible for the boys.
