THIS IS FOR YOU!
Recently in the monthly meeting of the South Jordan Public Arts and Cultural Development Board (PACDB), Even Jones suggested that “THIS IS FOR YOU” should be a new theme for all City of South Jordan activities. Let me explain. Monthly South Jordan City hosts a meeting to advance public arts and cultural development within the city. This board is tasked with the responsibility of developing, promoting, administrating, and approving grant requests to advance and further arts and cultural events. These events always promote a cohesive neighborly spirit within our city. In behalf of the mayor and city council of South Jordan City, I invite you to enjoy our city to the fullest. Here is an outline of “THIS IS FOR YOU”:
Every Saturday through October, fill your harvest basket with fresh and locally grown fruits and vegetables at the Farmers Market, located at Towne Center Drive, West of City Hall, from 8 am to 2 pm.
My granddaughter and I recently lunched at the South Jordan Plaza enjoying the sound and beauty of the water fountain which converts to an ice skating rink in the winter. South Jordan Plaza is located between South Jordan City Hall and the South Jordan Library.
Enjoy the three-mile stretch through South Jordan on the Jordan River Trail along the Jordan River. Sept. 18 the trail will be finished from Utah Lake to the Great Salt Lake.
Catch your limit at South Jordan’s urban fishery located at 11200 South Riverfront Parkway. There are plenty of fish available for those who come, as the fishery is regularly stocked by the State of Utah Division of Wildlife Resources.
South Jordan City Hall is home to the one and only “Freedom Mural,” a mosaic portrait the displays the history of the United States on 50 painted tiles.
Sept. 22, at the Farmers Market, attend and taste the sixth annual South Jordan City Firefighters Chili Cook-Off. Come taste several different chili recipes and vote for your favorite. Better yet, get out your favorite recipe and register to be a cook.
The Saturday before Halloween, the city hosts the Fall Festival with tasty treats, fun games and exciting competitions e.g. largest pumpkin and best costume. Join us for a cup of hot cocoa and celebrate the fall season in Heritage Park, home of the stunning Founding Families statue on Redwood Road between the Community Center and the Fitness Center.
Nov. 30, will be our annual Christmas tree lighting celebration known as Light the Night. Free ice stake rentals and hot chocolate will be served. When the weather is cold, the plaza fountain is frozen and the city Christmas tree is displayed in the center of the plaza. Also watch for the PACDB newest art form, Candy Windows…Something Sweet is Coming.
Sounds of the Season choral Christmas concert ushering in the Christmas season will be hosted at Bingham High School on Dec. 14 and 15. This remarkable choir boasts over 100 volunteer singers.
Resident on Display is a program to promote the artists of South Jordan. Every few weeks, a new artist is chosen by the PACDB to display their work, first at Lorem Ipsum, the art gallery in SoDa Row within Daybreak, and then at the Gale Center. PACDB is always looking for artists ready to share their talent with our community.
