2/8/13, 12:30 p.m. -- Southland Elementary in Riverton was put into lockdown for a short period today.
According to Unified Police spokesman Lt. Justin Hoyal, the lockdown was prompted by a strong arm robbery down the street from the school.
The male suspect approached a woman in a car, reached into the car and took the woman’s purse. He then ran off. The UPD asked for the lockdown, which lasted from 10 to 10:30 a.m., as a precaution in case the suspect ran onto school property.
School officials say the school was quickly secured and students were never in any danger.
Southland Elementary is located at 12675 South 2700 West.
