Howl for Halloween in Herriman
Herriman’s Halloween festivities start on Oct. 12 with the 11th annual Pumpkin Festival from 5 to 7 p.m. at Butterfield Park, 6212 West Butterfield Parkway (14200 South)
Activities will include a pumpkin decorating contest. Carved or decorated pumpkins should be brought to the main pavilion by 4:30 p.m. Judging will be done by age groups, (0-4, 5-7, 8-10, 11-13, 14-17 and 18 plus) and prizes will be awarded.
The costume contest will be at 5:30 p.m. Contestants should line by age group on the north side of the stage in the main pavilion. Judging categories include 0-1, 2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-10, 11-13, 14-17 and 18-plus. There will also be a family costume contest, and prizes will be awarded.
Other activities include games, a scavenger hunt for the kids and refreshments.
The festival is sponsored by Mountain America and Chic-fil-A.
The next Halloween event is the Hijinx4: Monster Mash put on by the Herriman community orchestra on Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. at the Ft. Herriman Middle School auditorium, 14058 Mirabella Drive (6000 West).
Music selections will come from “The Phantom of the Opera,” “Beauty and the Beast,” “Monsters, Inc.,” “The Addams Family” and more. The concert is free, but a donation of $3 is greatly appreciated. Come dressed in your favorite Halloween costume for a chance to win a prize.
The Herriman Arts Council is also hosting a Halloween house decorating contest. Entries are made by posting a picture or video on the Herriman Arts Council Facebook page with the home’s address. Categories will be; the People’s Choice award, the spookiest and the most creative. The People’s Choice award will be the house with the most likes on the Facebook page. The other categories will be judged on Oct. 28, and winners will be announced on Halloween.
“These Halloween activities are a great way to get residents of our city together and build community bonds. They also provide enjoyment for many different interests,” City Councilmember Craig Tischner said.
