743 days ago461 views

On April 17, Boy Scout Troop 517 of South Jordan held a Court of Honor to present five Eagle Scout awards—the highest rank a scout can receive. Those achieving the rank of Eagle were Matthew Gittins, Brandon Hatch, Justin Irving, Joshua Marshall and Joshua Moon.

Hundreds of hours of time were donated as a result of the scouts' Eagle projects. Matthew led a book and donation drive for the library at Eastlake Elementary. Brandon planned and coordinated the painting of over 600 chairs for an LDS stake. Justin collected donations for and led a project to install a commercial-grade flagpole at a city park. Joshua Marshall planned and led the completion of the grounds at three public playgrounds. Joshua Moon promoted organ donation and planned and conducted an organ donation seminar.

Troop 517, sponsored by the LDS Daybreak 7th Ward, has had many Eagle Scouts over the years but has never recognized this many at the same time., "Matt, Brandon, Josh, Josh, and Justin have showed me, through example, the importance of living the Scout Law throughout your whole life. My hope is that these young men will continue to live the Scout Law and build on their scouting experiences," Scoutmaster Todd Schwendiman said.

The Court of Honor included a live eagle demonstration, as well as a presentation by members of the Mormon Battalion Association. Over 100 family members and friends attended the ceremony.
