With so many advances in orthodontics, there's no reason to not have a fantastic smile. At Talbot Orthodontics, 2364 West 12600 South, Suite 2C, Dr. Travis Talbot will personalize an orthodontic treatment for each patient and every condition.

Dr. Talbot attended Utah State University and the Creighton University School of Dentistry. He also received his Master's of Science degree in orthodontics at the Mayo Clinic, so he is well versed in the latest techniques, procedures and equipment for straightening teeth or correcting bite problems.

"We offer a very personal approach to orthodontics," Dr. Talbot says. "We have a moderate size practice that allows me to spend more time with the patients. I have better control over the quality of the results because I see the patients at every appointment."

The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that children should see an orthodontist by the age of 7 in order to catch any potential problems. Dr. Talbot can track how permanent teeth are coming in and how they fit together. He can also suggest preventative treatments such as partial braces or expanders that might negate the need for complete braces later in life.

If a child or teen does need braces, Dr. Talbot will begin the process by taking x-rays, photos and molds of the teeth to decide the best course of action so he can formulate a plan. Patients can choose from metal, ceramic or gold braces; Dr. Talbot also utilizes Invisalign and Damon 3 products. The new Damon 3 bracket system eliminates the use of elastic ligatures.

"There are no magic braces that move your teeth faster than others," Dr. Talbot says. "It's more about personal preference. The braces don't treat the patientsorthodontists do."

Most braces are left on patients' teeth for 18 months to two years and appointments are scheduled every six to eight weeks during that time for adjustments or tracking. Adults who never had the opportunity for braces when they were younger are now coming to orthodontists to get a nice smile.

For adults, Dr. Talbot usually uses crystal clear brackets that don't discolor over time and are very aesthetically pleasing. If lower front teeth have become crowded, front teeth are showing excessive wear, teeth are tilted improperly or the teeth don't fit together properly, it could be time to schedule an appointment for corrective orthodontics.

"If you're not happy with your smile or if you didn't have the chance to have braces before, this is the chance to get the smile you've always wanted," he says.
