Auditions for the Riverton Arts Council production of "Bye Bye Birdie" will be Friday, March 18, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., and Saturday, March 19, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Sandra Lloyd Community Center, 12880 South Redwood Road. Come prepared to sing 16 bars from an upbeat musical in the style of this show. Auditions must be either accompanied by piano or music minus track (no audition with accompaniment). Bring a resume plus headshot or school picture. Dance auditions will also be held, so please come dressed appropriately. Call backs will be Wednesday, March 23. Show dates are June 17-27. All parts are open.

"Bye Bye Birdie" is the hilarious story of Albert, a songwriter, who has been commissioned to write the last song that Army-drafted, rock-n'-roll sensation Conrad Birdie will sing on the "Ed Sullivan" show before he heads off to war. Following the song, and as a final farewell, Conrad will then kiss Kim, a girl from Sweet Apple, Ohio, on live television. However, Conrad's hip-thrusting makes more than one person uncomfortable, and hilarity and entertainment ensues as several attempts are made to stop the show. Meanwhile, Albert's girlfriend, Rosie, wonders if he will ever leave his mother's shadow.
