Following a dominating performance from the Bingham High boys and girls swimming teams at the Judge Invitational in mid-December, the Miners look poised to remain among the top teams in the state. At the meet on Dec. 16, Bingham placed first among 10 other teams with the boys squad defeating second place Springville by over 300 points while the girls team scored 462 points to 3A defending champion Judge Memorial’s 357 points.

“We had great swims across the board,” said head coach Andee Bouwhuis, in her 11th year at Bingham. “It was a fast pool and good meet going into the holidays.”

Both teams – 80 swimmers strong – are undefeated after 10 meets this year in aiming for top three finishes at state this season.

At the Park City Invitational in early November, the Miners came out on top against 368 swimmers from several teams. Two weeks later, Bingham won the Thanksgiving Invitational against 24 teams and over 1,200 athletes. Shane Callihan was the high point overall winner at the event while breaking the meet record in the 100 backstroke. Kirsten Mathewson received Junior Girl High Point honors as well.

“That was a huge success for our team,” Bouwhuis said. “It was an amazing meet with over 95 percent of the swims being best times for the season.”

The Miners also placed first in the Region Relays Oct. 13 and Jordan District Championships Nov. 22, while defeating Alta, Riverton, Lone Peak, Pleasant Grove and American Fork in dual meets.

Bingham is led by Callihan, Blair Roberts, Devin Froerer, Josh Haslam, Aaron Richardson and Trevor Bone on the boys side with Mathewson, Kiersten Bradshaw, Diana Olsen, Kenzie Barrow, Lindsay Westra and Andee Guy on the girls team.

Also on the Miners squad are Kyle Agren, Morgan Ashcraft, Annelise Baggett, Courtney Baggett, Ethan Barrow, Nicole Bennett, Tanner Bennett, Caitlyn Bone, Dani Carr, Austin Credaroli, Juan Cuartas, Gabby Davis, Kimber Dymond, Abby England, McKell Fowlks, David Gil, Amelia Hansen, Ashlyn Hansen, Tess Hanson, Kelton Harper, Raynee Helm, Winston Hilton, Collin Horrocks, Mitchell Huff, Brian Jepson, Cory Johnston, Riley Kartchner, Tiffany King, Joe Koyle, Mary Larsen, Megan Larsen, Ivette Leal, Hailey Lindquist, Maddison Merrill, Tristan Moser, Tiffany Moulton, Moza Msiska, Weston Murdock, Brent Nelson, Peter Nelson, Josh Nestman, Hayden Nickel, Ciera Olsen, Ciera Orr, Tiani Orr, Carson Quinn, Cassidy Ramsey, Mecayla Ramsey, Tatiana Redd, Jacob Richins, Brock Riding, Grant Roberts, Emilee Robinson, Jonah Silva, Calvin Smith, Cody Smith, Sarah Smith, Amanda Sorensen, Rourke Stark, Haylee Tate, Tanner Thiede, Alexis Thomas, Marcelo Valenzuela, Paula Valenzuela, Carlos Vinetea, Jessica Wilson, Dalin Workman and Rachel Young.
