Second-term Bluffdale City Council member still anxious to serve

Bruce Kartchner was recently sworn in for the second time as a Bluffdale City councilmember.

“I felt I should run again because I felt we had made good progress and wanted to continue,” he said. “We balanced the budget in due time and changed our police services with Saratoga Springs. I worked well with the mayor on the Porter Rockwell Blvd and want the city to continue moving forward.”

Kartchner was born and reared in Blanding, Utah. He is the eighth child of Harvey and Ardel Kartchner with three brothers and seven sisters.

“They call me their ‘baby boy,” he said.

His father was the city barber who ran a farm on the side. He had homesteaded 320 acres under the Homestead Act. His farms ranged between 20 and 320 acres over time and Kartchner and his siblings learned to work hard.

He graduated from San Juan High School when he was 17.

“Sports were very special to me and I was involved in basketball, football, tennis and track and field,” he said.

After high school, Kartchner attended BYU where he graduated with a master’s degree in accounting.

He has been married to Theo for 28 years and is the father of six daughters Melissa, Annalyn, Samantha, Analee, Sierra and Cassidy and the proud grandfather of three.

“My family and I have been residents of Bluffdale for 13 years and I am concerned over the future of this community,” he said.

Bringing people together and terminating turmoil is one of the reasons he continues his service in the council, Kartchner said.

He feels he can utilize his skills as a CPA and has been Bluffdale City treasurer for six years providing core services in a fiscally responsible manner. He appreciates the unique character of the city and does not want to diminish that.
