‘Annie Get Your Gun’ fires onto stage in Bluffdale

105 days ago260 views

The Bluffdale Arts Advisory Board is proud to announce the opening of “Annie Get Your Gun.” It will be performed March 1-3 at 7:30 p.m., with a 1 p.m. matinee on March 3, at South Hills Middle School, 13508 South 4000 West.

“This musical is Americana at it's very best,” said director Laura Garner. "Any story that blends romance, show business, the old American Wild West and the unforgettable music of Irving Berlin has to make for an extraordinary night at the theater, and ‘Annie Get Your Gun’ doesn't disappoint".

The story is a fictionalized version of famed American sharpshooter Annie Oakley and her exploits with the celebrated Buffalo Bill and his Wild West show. Set to the immortal music of Irving Berlin, the show contains such musical theatre classics as, "There's No Business Like Show Business," "Doin' What Comes Naturally," "You Can't Get a Man With a Gun," "They Say It's Wonderful," "My Defenses Are Down" and "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better."

Kate Garner stars as Annie Oakley, “the best shot around,” who manages to support her little brother and sisters by selling the game she hunts. When she is discovered by Col. Buffalo Bill, played by Gordon Jones, he persuades her to join his Wild West Show. It only takes once glance for her to fall head over heels for the dashing shooting ace, Frank Butler, played by Frans Lambrechtsen. She soon eclipses Butler as the main attraction which, while good for business, is bad for romance. Butler high tails it off to join a rival show, his bruised male ego leading the way, but is ultimately pitted against Annie in a final shoot-out.

Other cast members include Amber Brill as Dolly Davenport, Chuck Wilson as Pawnee Bill and Cory Luker as Sitting Bull. Annie’s sisters are played by Rebecca Barlow, Annie Christensen, Kaleigh Hansen, Oakley Kent, Emily Pehrson, Abigail Scott, Melanie Summers, Haley Warne, and Brylea Winberg. Tucker Terry is Little Jake.

The cast of over 100 will be costumed by Angelle Anderson and Bonnie Stromberg, with Brandy Sumpsion Penita and Kate Garner as choreographers and Scott Pathakis as orchestra director. Special thanks go to The Mid Valley Bible Church for rehearsal space.

Tickets are $6 per person / 4 tickets for $20. Tickets can be purchased at the door prior to the performances, beforehand at the Bluffdale City offices, Peterson’s Market in Riverton or from cast members. Questions - call 254-7728.
