Riverton City Council
As we move into the New Year, it is a time of goal setting and renewing commitments. As a newly elected representative of our city, I have only begun to get my feet wet in all the many things the city is doing to ensure the future and stability of our city. One of those commitments from the city is to find ways to generate recurring revenue for the city that sustains the city without placing the burden upon the residents of Riverton.
As Riverton looks towards the future the focus of the next four years is going to be the area between Bangerter Highway and the Mountain View Corridor.
This area is prime real estate within our city but only if we manage this area appropriately. To prepare for this, the city is taking actions whereby the infrastructure and framework are being laid to establish a structure that will support a development that will complement the residents of our city while generating a revenue stream that is sustainable for many years. During this time, those of us that reside in the western portions of the city have begun to experience a temporary impact to our lifestyle and commute with the utility upgrades occurring as part of this project. The improvements that are occurring are necessary and are setting the tone for a pattern that will set us for at least the next 40 years.
This plan not only sets the table for an invitation of a development that is complementary to our area with entertainment, shopping and convenience, but also assists with the increased traffic coming from the southwest end of the Salt Lake Valley and the completion of the Mountain View Corridor.
It is the effort of a team of individuals with the foresight and knowledge that have strategically been placed in our city that have allowed for special funding that will support this project without seeing an increase to the expense of us as the taxpayers. They have worked closely with the utility companies and other interested parties to ensure that the new road that is going in will survive for years to come and will allow us to remain supported with the necessary infrastructure in the southwest corner of the city.
The first step in this mission is the utility projects underway and the strategic road projects that are set to begin in the next few months.
Many times as human we become myopic in our view of what is happening to us, and what is happening right now is no exception. We have already seen and will continue to see changes to our area of the city, and our city is looking out for us to ensure these changes and developments will benefit us as residents. So, as you feel this momentary pain, frustration, or whatever the emotion may be, remember this is a change to help support and sustain the future of this area and in the end make our lives easier.
