For many people, a cat or dog isn’t just a pet; it’s a member of the family. The staff at Oquirrh Hills Veterinary Center feels the same way. They are dedicated to making sure each visit to their clinic is comfortable, clean and inviting.

Located in Herriman at 5714 West 13400 South, Oquirrh Hills Veterinary Center specializes in high-quality, personalized care for your dog, cat or small animal. Preventative care, surgery, dermatology, ophthalmology, boarding, grooming and other services are performed with attention to detail, while maintaining a strong focus on pet owner education.

“Preventative care is far better than reactionary medicine,” Dr. David Vaas says. “It’s important that owners educate themselves to give optimal care to their pets regarding nutrition, behavior, training and vaccines.”

Established in 2004, Oquirrh Hills Veterinary Center has four top-notch doctors on staff. Dr. Vaas is joined by Dr. Robert Myrick, Dr. Eric Chapman and Dr. Jessica Zelnik. Each veterinarian has received advanced training in providing compassionate care for animals.

The facility occupies nearly 5,000 square feet and incorporates the latest procedures, equipment and treatments. It also offers the PennHip diagnostic method as a way to better identify hip dysplasia in dogs at an early age.

Dr. Vaas says pet owners are obligated to treat their animals with a high level of care including regular pet vaccinations, spaying or neutering their animals and being aware of any conditions that might warrant a visit to the vet.

Seasonal concerns include intestinal problems during the holidays, toxic plant ingestion during the spring and tick problems or mosquito and heartworm risks during the warmer months.

Along with providing quality medical care, the center also offers grooming and boarding. The technicians use superior products to get a pet looking beautiful during their pampering treatments and the specialists can treat specific skin conditions. For older pets, hydraulic tables are available and a walk-in shower and tub and special dryers ensure the safety of each animal.

And for owners who board their pets, the staff at Oquirrh Hills Veterinary Center ensures every dietary, medical and attention need is met.

For pets that have medical procedures requiring a longer stay at the center, Dr. Vaas encourages pet owners to visit frequently to help alleviate any fears, both in the pet and the owner. Above all else, the staff at the center wants a pet owner’s, and a pet’s, experience to be comfortable.

“There’s a strong emphasis on creating a family-friendly environment,” Dr. Vaas said. “We want it to be warm, inviting and definitely clean. We’re fastidious about our cleanliness. But we’re intimate and inviting, not cold and sterile.”

Oquirrh Hills Veterinary Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. The practice is closed on Sunday. For more information, call 801-446-5194 or visit www.oquirrhhillsvet.com.
